The Bad Guys Are Closer Than We Think

    After a beautiful Autumn afternoon outside we pulled into our driveway just like we had countless times before. As we approached our front door I thought I heard something from inside the house. When I tried to open the front door - it wouldn't open. Someone had pushed the sofa in front of the door to block our entry. I went around the house to the side door. It was wide open!

 My heart was racing as I paused before entering the side door.

 Trying to stay as calm as possible I  told our son to hurry over to our neighbor and ask them to call the police. " Just tell them our address and we are being burglarized. And hurry", I added as he scurried off.

 As I stepped inside the side door - my heart began to pound even harder. Our son's computer was missing. And the floor in the living room was cluttered with stuff. Pictures ripped off the walls.

These burglars clearly had no concern for our stuff. Our sons' pictures torn from their place on the wall. This was starting to piss me off. Computers can be replaced. Family treasures strewn about the living room floor? That was another matter.

 To make a long story short, we arrived home before they could clear us out. They had filled a few bags and some luggage with the stuff they were going to steal. The goods were just inside a rear window. So they could unload them out the rear  window.

 We are not wealthy. Not even close. The computer and the other stuff they planned to take might have brought a hundred bucks at their favorite pawn shop. I shook my head in disbelief as I joked with the police officer - they couldn't buy much in drugs for the haul they were about to steal from our humble little home. We were just sure that only someone in search of money for drugs would try to make off with our mostly worthless collection of stuff.
